Before any americans start attacking me, all questions asked in the UK go to the US site automatically.

Anyway I have bad zits and I have acne scars from them it is really bad, I want to be referred to a dermatologist, do you have to go through your GP? And what should I say to the GP?In the UK to go to a dermatologist do you have to go through your GP?
Yes, you would need a referral from a GP to see a Dermatologist on the NHS.

You usually need a referral from a GP to see a Dermatologist privately too (but not always), but this referral is always more forthcoming as you are paying!

Do go and see your GP. There are treatments available on the NHS and you don't have to suffer in silence. Just tell your GP the truth. If they won't refer you ask to see another GP. most GP's are symphathetic. If traditional treatments are not helping you it may be time to talk to a specialist. There is a treatment called Roaccutane that may, or may not, be suitable for your circumstances, adn in most instances this needs to be prescribed by a Consultant. Ask about it. It may not be appropriate for you and they may try other things first.

Either way. I'd definitely make the appointment with your GP.

Best of luck:)In the UK to go to a dermatologist do you have to go through your GP?
Usually you do have to go through a GP unless it's a real emergency worthy of going straight to a hospital A%26amp;E dept. I guess you could try to go fully privately, but that would be costly - be careful always to check out qualifications and if you don't know how, don't do it.

If you are looking for NHS referral, speak to the GP and tell them it's really bad and causing you great stress etc. A dermatologist may not be the only specialist you need - there may be additional tests required first.

Also, try nhs direct - 0845 4647 - if you get through to the right person, they can be very helpful.
Yeh you have to speak to your GP so that they can recommend you for a consultation unless you go private.I have really bad dry skin and after 6years of being fedup my GP finally referred me this year! Be very assertive and tell them you want to see a Dermatologist for your skin because nothing they've given you is working.
yes you have to see your gp and you probably wont have to say much if your spots are that bad. Either way tell them the situation you are in and how it effects you personally. Good luck
