if you have insurance it should be about. $0
If you don't have insurance, figure in the neighborhood of $150-$200. If you do have insurance, it should pay because moles can turn into cancers.
A doctor can do that you dont need a dermatologist.
it depends on how good your insurance is
you should leave it alone unless it hurts or itches. but anyway, my mom had a mole on her neck, and she tied a piece of dental floss around it and it fell off

You need to see someone who knows what they are talking about. What he's telling you is that he doesn't have a clue why your skin is dry and that he believes the sun screen is going to protect you from cancer. I hope you didn't pay him money for that advice.

If you have dry skin and are concerned about being in the sun, you need to see someone who can give you some good advice. I suggest you go see a Certified Nutritional Therapist that can test you for any deficiencies you may have specific to you, not just some guess of something that may work for you and then give you a diet that will make your body healthy to get rid of that dry skin issue.

good luck to youMy dermatologist recommended a water-based moisturizer with sunscreen. Is Oil of Olay Complete water-based?
I can't really tell from reading the description. You know, the dermatologist's office staff probably keeps a list. Give 'em a call.

Where can i go to see a dermatologist? What do i say? How do i pay them?

You can find a dermatologist in the yellow pages or by calling your insurance company and asking who accepts the insurance. It can be a very long wait for an appointment these days as there are not enough dermatologists and they are in high demand due to all the cosmetic work they do now. A good way to get an excellent dermatologist is to contact a state university hospital. I did that and got one of the best dermatologists in my State. They take all insurances, too, unlike many private providers who are very picky about what they will accept.

You don't have to feel self-consious at the dermatologists. They have seen it all. They basically take a look at your skin during the first appointment, discuss things like how long you have had the problems, make a diagnosis, maybe run a couple of tests (like blood work, but it does not sound like that is needed in your case), then prescribe a course of treatment. They explain your condition to you, tell you how long the treatment takes to work, what side effects could happen and give you a follow up appointment.

If you cannot get a dermatologist due to a long wait, insurance problems, etc., your conditions can be treated by a primary care doctor. They are qualified to treat many things. For instance, rosacea is sometimes treated with medications that a primary care provider can prescribe and sometimes lifestyle modifications, like avoiding very hot showers, stress and other triggers are suggested. A primary care doctor can prescribe the medication and discuss these things with you. They can also recommend a good dermatologist and may be able to speed the process of getting an appointment by making the referral call for you, even if your insurance does not require it.

Do you have insurance? If so, you have a provider directory which you can get usually online or by calling the number on the back of your insurance card. Ask your insurance if you can see specialists without a referral. This will make a difference. If you do not need a referral, you can schedule and appointment with a dermatologist in your directory. Just call and schedule.

If you do not have insurance, you can call several dermatologists using the yellow pages (online or book), and ask if they take payments for non-insured patients. You can call local area hospitals and ask them if they know of any dermatologists who do not require insurance. Sometimes you can just see a regular primary care doctor as well.

Hope this helps.
I'm sure you need to call and set an appointment. Let the receptionist know over the phone that you have never been to a dermatologist before, and that you were wondering what the general process was.

You probably need to fill out some forms for insurance, just like you would at a family doctor's office.

I think usually dermatologists have their own clinics, yes.

Hope this helps!
you can ask your regular doctor for a referral, you can look in the phone book, you can go online and do a search for dermatologists in your area.

you tell the dermatologist what you want to accomplish regarding your skin, and he will tell you if it is possible.

as for paying him, if you do not have insurance, then you best ask how much when you call for an appointment, and then save your pennies, it's a cash and carry business medicine is.
If you are in the military you have insurance, I was a dependent so I had CHAMPUS. However, for enlisted staff military medicine is great when you have a gun shot wound or other trauma. Try the site below, and yes dermatologist are a specialized field with their own offices and clinics.

Ask your family dr for a referral. Once you get that, most things are paid for by health insurance, usually they will only charge you for cosmetic problems, but everything else will be covered, such a rashes, skin conditions, acne, including light treatments.
See if your medical provider covers any in your area. If not, then google some in your area. The medical way is to go, especially if all you need to pay is a co-pay. GL!
wow, um Yeah they have their own clinics, just look it up in the yellow pages, you could pay them with a check or credit card or cash.

Having dermatologist remove susipicious mole without inxurance?

Im going to my dermatologist to get a biopsy. I will have health insurance in two months. If this turns out to be cancer, which obviously I hope it wont, will I not be able to get insurance? (its through my job) I will be getting Empire blue cross blue shield, should I pay for it for the next two months? Will this change anything? Also does anyone know how much a biopsy is without insurance?Having dermatologist remove susipicious mole without inxurance?
Talk to your dermatologist. Mine had just gotten a new laser and was so excited to use it he didn't charge me anything, of course there was no expensive biopsy involved, but explain your situation and see what they say.

Can your family doctor instead of a dermatologist write prescriptions for Accutane or Differen gel for acne?

yes , usually the family doctor does do this . you should occasionally see the specialist for the current / advise on what drug / medicine is best for whatever your condition is . medicines can change newer things might become available . after you know what is best , you can fill it and then you then just bring the tube or bottle with you to the family doctor office because the family doctor needs to see what is the exact size / color / brand / name of medicine that you want .

the family doctor is a good person to help manage the various prescriptions a person may have . i like my internal family doctor to help weigh in on decisions and to make sure that all the things are coordinated / work well for my system. the family doctor is often more available for appointments don't have to wait months to see . god forbid you should have to cancel , you have a huge fee / and wait six more months for another perfect window.

i think specialists might be the right people to make selections / about what medicine is best for whatever the situation , but the family doctor can execute that doctors advise . doctors do coordinate together if any questions , it's helpful and makes me more comfortable. my family doctor is quite helpful in explaining more to educate/ teach me / whyCan your family doctor instead of a dermatologist write prescriptions for Accutane or Differen gel for acne?
Yes. However, if he or she feels that a dermatologist would better be able to evaluate and treat your condition, you may get a referral. Can your family doctor instead of a dermatologist write prescriptions for Accutane or Differen gel for acne?
any licensed physician may write for any approved drug. Question is, will they?
No gel or any cream is really helping with acne. It just fills up the pores and you get more acne. The only treatment with thousands of proven results is Low Level Laser therapy, e.g. acne is treated with derma laser without scars and any side effects - the healing process is starting immediately. You should look for a laser specialist. It will help definitely!

How do i get to a dermatologist?

And is it free on the NHS? Will the doctor refer me if i ask him/her? I have lots of moles on my legs, arm neck and and back, even the hips, i want them checking to make sure they are not cancerous and make sure i'm safe.

ThanksHow do i get to a dermatologist?
Doctor should refer you! tell him/her about your concerns! How do i get to a dermatologist?
Your GP has an obligation to refer you to clinical specialist, especially if you are extremely anxious about this. Say you want a second opinion. Some people have lots of moles which are harmless except when they begin changing. You can only have complete assurance that the tissue sample is cancerous or non-cancerous by pathology examination
your gp will probably blow you off but you can ask, otherwise you can write to the dermatologist yourself, however, one really only checks moles out if they have changed shape or size or consistancy.. for example if you have had them there looking the same all your life, ts no big deal. just because you have a lot doesnt mean they are cancerous.
You need to get referred by your GP for free NHS treatment or pay to go private.

I needed to see one for dermatitis and was fobbed off and eventually changed doctor and had to keep going back before I got referred. It's they're job to help you. If they try dismissing you you may have to complain a bit or keep going back.
your doctor can do this. If a mole bothers you they can remove it, if its worrying they can refer you to a hospital treatment ward.
your insure.comp. will approve first..and or your doctor will sent you.. i have united health care,,i can to any doctor for any reason with any doctor sending me or what
usually a referal from your family doctor.

I want my acne gone for good. What should i tell my dermatologist?

I've already gotten many prescriptions including pills-DORYX 150mg. the creams im currently using are differin and duac. My derm is prob happy that she can keep on making money off of me but all docs are like that,so what can i ask or do to finally make my acne go away after so long? My appointment is in 6 dayss. serious questionnnnnI want my acne gone for good. What should i tell my dermatologist?
Make a list of all the medication you are/were on and give it to him/her. Describe you acne in detail, and if it's a good derm they will examine your face or wherever you have acne. Give each medication at least three months, sometimes when you start new medicine for acne it will make it much worse before it gets better. Drink lots of water, change your pillowcase and DO NOT touch your face!I want my acne gone for good. What should i tell my dermatologist?
TELL her to put you on ACCUTANE NOW! I once had a derm that only cared about the money. Then i switched to a nice guy who actually cared about helping his patients and helping them get clear. Get accutane or switch doctors, don't be a personal piggy bank to anyone.
    You should tell him '; I want my acne gone for good';
    Hi, Mish

The effectiveness of safe Acne Treatments has been studied extensively by many international organizations and research institutes. Unfortunately, this research is often not published in a suitable way for consumers to be able to compare the different Acne Treatments available on the market.

In fact, the lack of source citations on the Internet is a little bit scary. There is a system called:';Acne Free In 3 Days';. You will be pleasantly surprised by the book. All the sources are cited and he even has an extensive bibliography in the back.

Why should this matter for you?

For starters, it meanst the information in the book is accurate and you won鈥檛 have trouble following the things it has to say. It is very impressive that it not only gives you a detailed account of the things against acne, it also has the research to back it up.

The writing style is also easy to read. You can feel and understand the pain becasue it鈥檚 something you have felt as well.

This isn鈥檛 just another marketer trying to sell you something, This book is truly something which is there and cares about the results you get.

You can read more information about this book at the link below:

How do I get referred to a dermatologist??

If I go to my doctor and say I wanna get referred to a dermatologist will they refer me?? Or do they need to say if i need one..How do I get referred to a dermatologist??
Go to your regular doctor and see who he request.Usually he will know a good dermatologist.Trust me I've been through this.I still am.How do I get referred to a dermatologist??
It depends on the type of insurance you have. HMOs require to get referrals from the primary care physcian, other plans such as PPOs do not. If you don't need the referal, get a list of participating dermatologists in your area from your insurance company. Or if you already know one, call his office and ask if he accepts your insurance plan.
Yep, your doctor will refer you to a dermatologist and the doctor's office will make sure that your insurance covers the one they send you to. Just tell your doctor what the problem is that you think you need to see a dermatologist for!
Why do you need a referral for a dermatologist? Have yu checked with your insurance company and made sure they require this? I have never heard of needing a referral for a dermatologist.
The best thing to do is just to call a dermatologist and ask them how they handle things. I've never heard of one requiring a referral.

  • Is there such thing as being a dermatologist just for the face?

Or do dermatologists have to help people for all skin problems all over the body? I am more interested in helping those who have skin problems with their face. Just wondering. I just don't know what that would be called, a facial dermatologist? I know that Esthticians do some of that too, so I donno, please help!Is there such thing as being a dermatologist just for the face?
    No.

A dermatologist is a physician, who is a medical doctor. It takes four years of college and at least eight years of medical schools--and that's absolute minimal.

You won't be looking at people's faces. What you are thinking is an esthetician. She'd do facial, etc. in a spa.

If you were a dermatologist, you'd be working as a physician--but you won't be treating someone with a flu--you'll be checking a patient's skin for cancer, or whatever else the primary care physician (a family practice doctor) originally refers the patient to you. You'll be very busy doing biopsies--removing a piece of skin (and / or deeper) and send it to the lab to have it examined under a microscope to rule out cancer (etc). It is not a fun and game at all--serious stuff. But yes, you'll be seeing people's faces, too. Many patients will be sent to you for severe acne problems that needs to go on heavy duty stuff (like Accutane). You'll also do surgeries--removing a lot of cancer stuff. They're not major surgeries like open-heart surgeries, nor anything a plastic surgeon would do, but nevertheless, you had better good at what you're doing.

Many dermatologists also do a lot of cosmetic procedures-and most of the time it's 'cash only' types of visits, for example, Botox, etc. because insurance does not cover the payment.

But if you limit yourself to ';faces'; only, you might have to move your office to Beverly Hills to please the rich and famous patients--I'm sure there are enough of them to keep your practice busy.

I hope this answers your question a bit.

In the UK to go to a dermatologist do you have to go through your GP?

Anyway I have bad zits and I have acne scars from them it is really bad, I want to be referred to a dermatologist, do you have to go through your GP? And what should I say to the GP?In the UK to go to a dermatologist do you have to go through your GP?
Yes, you would need a referral from a GP to see a Dermatologist on the NHS.

You usually need a referral from a GP to see a Dermatologist privately too (but not always), but this referral is always more forthcoming as you are paying!

Do go and see your GP. There are treatments available on the NHS and you don't have to suffer in silence. Just tell your GP the truth. If they won't refer you ask to see another GP. most GP's are symphathetic. If traditional treatments are not helping you it may be time to talk to a specialist. There is a treatment called Roaccutane that may, or may not, be suitable for your circumstances, adn in most instances this needs to be prescribed by a Consultant. Ask about it. It may not be appropriate for you and they may try other things first.

Either way. I'd definitely make the appointment with your GP.

Best of luck:)In the UK to go to a dermatologist do you have to go through your GP?
Usually you do have to go through a GP unless it's a real emergency worthy of going straight to a hospital A%26amp;E dept. I guess you could try to go fully privately, but that would be costly - be careful always to check out qualifications and if you don't know how, don't do it.

If you are looking for NHS referral, speak to the GP and tell them it's really bad and causing you great stress etc. A dermatologist may not be the only specialist you need - there may be additional tests required first.

Also, try nhs direct - 0845 4647 - if you get through to the right person, they can be very helpful.
Yeh you have to speak to your GP so that they can recommend you for a consultation unless you go private.I have really bad dry skin and after 6years of being fedup my GP finally referred me this year! Be very assertive and tell them you want to see a Dermatologist for your skin because nothing they've given you is working.
yes you have to see your gp and you probably wont have to say much if your spots are that bad. Either way tell them the situation you are in and how it effects you personally. Good luck
Yes you do have to go through a GP and ask for a referral.
yes i go through my doc %26amp; he makes the apointment 4 me on line

How much college is required for a Dermatologist?

Is it eight yrs or more? How much college is required for a Dermatologist?
Four years of college, majoring in pre-med or a science [or another major but still taking all the math/science requirements]. Then take the MCATs [like SATs for med school admission]. Then four years of med school. Then one year of internship. Then 3-5 years of residency. Optional fellowship after that.

Internship and residency are paid [modestly] and consist of 80-hour work weeks and 24-36hr on-call shifts in-hospital [sleep, if you're lucky].

aamc.orgHow much college is required for a Dermatologist?
Well, it's 4 years of college for any type of physician.

But if you meant what is the overall length of school/training, it's a minimum of 12 years. The path is:

4 years of college (BS or BA)

    4 years of medical school

4 years of dermatology residency (including a 1 year internship)

1+ optional years of fellowship (if you choose to subspecialize)

For any type of doctor, the time in college and med school is the same. The length of residency, however, varies, from a minimum 3 years (eg family practice, internal medicine) to 7+ years (eg neurosurgery) depending on the type of medicine you choose to go into.
No, you don't need a BS (bachelors of science) degree to get into medical school. A BA (arts) is absolutely equivalent. Notice he got three thumbs down.

And as the others have mentioned, you need four years (average -- people are doing 5 now just because of the required courses many universities and colleges impose) of undergrad and four years of medical or osteopathic school. Then you'll take your residency (which lasts about 4-5 years) and perhaps a fellowship, depending on your goals by then.
A dermatologist is a doctor - so you have to go to college (usually around 4 years) and then medical school (another 4 years).
    Yes, 8+
One most have a bachelors of Science. Four years of college are required in order to become a dermatologist in America.

  • How do I go to a dermatologist?

I have the BlueShield of California HMO through my employer, and I am wondering how do I go about seeing a dermatologist? Do I ask my physician to refer me to one or do I talk to the HMO directly? How much would it cost, on average? How do I go to a dermatologist?
All HMO's require a referral, because a dermatologist is considered a specialist and will cost more than it does to see a general practitioner. Sometimes you can just call your doctor (depending on how well they know you) and ask them to fax a referral to the specialist you want to see.

The HMO will pay based on whether or not they believe the visit is ';medically necessary';. So make sure the referral is well written and makes it clear that you've exhausted all options with your regular doctor.

A dermatologist doesn't always cost more so call around. You might be able to find one for $100 or less for a visit. If you find it to be out of your price range you can join an online forum related specifically to whatever your concern is. There are forums that specialize in acne, rosacea, etc...How do I go to a dermatologist?
You call a dermatologist office that takes Blue Shield insurance and then make an appointment.
Just call on that is in your HMO. You don't usually need a referral, but you can call your HMO to find out. It costs about the same as a regular doctor. I used to work in a skin care clinic. Perhaps you could post your problem and save some money?
I think with an HMO you need a referral from your regular doctor. PPO plans you just go straight to a doctor. No idea on price, but your plan probably specifies what percentage you are liable for.
    Hi

Most likely you will need to get referred from your GP. Some specialists will take non-referrals but I wouldnt risk it. Depending whether or not you are on a health care system, depends on how much you pay. You will be looking at paying approximately $100-$200 just for a consultation

Buy neostara products or visit a dermatologist?

I am having acne should i buy neostara products or visit a dermatologist? What are the dermatologist charges like?

what sort of treatments are available?Buy neostara products or visit a dermatologist?
1.) Well, the charges depends upon your health insurance.

2.) Many treatments are available. Topical treatments(which are applied to the face) include differin, benzaclin, and duac just to name a few. If these treatments are not effective then you can look into chemical peels, dermabrasion, microdermabrasion. Hope this helps!

For bad skin do u go to a regular doctor or a dermatologist?

Ive got blackheads in my nose and I want o go see a doc and see if they can help me out - i dont have a family doc so im trying to figure out where to go. I called around and there are very few dermatologists so i was wondering if you just go to a regular doc and they do it or if I need to dee s dermatologist - also if I go to a regular doc what department is that? For bad skin do u go to a regular doctor or a dermatologist?
I prefer a dermatologists because they have a wider range of knowledge and products they can use.

Also, you can go see an esthetician. Getting a facial will help remove your blackheads, and it is MUCH more relaxing!!!For bad skin do u go to a regular doctor or a dermatologist?

Should i go to a dermatologist for acne treatment?

there are times when my face clears up completely, but most of the time, i always have some acne and redness.

i've tried all sorts of three step systems and nothing works.

is it worth going to a dermatologist, and getting prescription medicine?

if so, how much does it usually cost?Should i go to a dermatologist for acne treatment?
Most definitely. Dermatologists know the most about skin conditions. The cost varies from city to city - call around and ask. And if you have insurance ask how much your insurance covers - you might have to call your insurance provider for that.Should i go to a dermatologist for acne treatment?
I've been in that situation and there is really nothing you can do about it. There are things you can do to try to reduce the blemishes and get rid of acne/pimples temporarily but you will always be finding yourself cleaning your face or your body depending on where it's at.

I mean of course your acne should go away eventually but for some this is the case their whole life.

I'm 29 years old and have been suffering from these little pests since I was a teenager. I tried all sorts of face washes from the local grocery store and what not, but nothing seemed to work. If anything it would just make my skin dry and itchy.

Literally the best acne face wash I've ever used has been this stuff called clearpores. It has got rid of the acne to quickest and has been a success ever since I got it. It's unique cause of it's herbal supplement you take a long with it that helps your skin from the inside out. I saved money on it at skincleansingsystem.com at the time which was helpful.

You should really look into this stuff and if you can to assure the best results, get the 3 month supply because if it doesn't work it will still save you butt on the return policy.

Well good luck and best wishes.

When you went to a dermatologist to treat your acne, what did they say?

I'm thinking about going to my doctor about my back acne. When you went, what things did they say to you? Tell me everything! When you went to a dermatologist to treat your acne, what did they say?
I only had acne on my chin and cheeks. Never past my Jaw...but here's what they told me. . .

All five of them told me something different, but they all agreed on putting me on birth control.

Some insist that I'm allergic to Dairy, others say food plays no role in acne.

One put me on antibiotics (Doxycycline) for like 3 years, but another one took me off of them as soon as she found out.

I also received multiple injections into the deeper pimples to help get rid of them.

NONE of these dermatologists cured my acne though. Instead I went to a crazy skin specialist who believes that the hurricanes are man made by George bush...okay? That's what we're dealing with here.

Crazy as she was, she knew what she was doing. She stuck needle after needle into every pore on my face and squeezing with all her might. 3 sessions 3 1/2 hours long EACH of pain and suffering.

My doctors had a heart attack when they found out where I went but guess what? She got rid of my acne. She rid my face of every single pimple that I've ever had and because of the birth control, I've not had one since. I have some scarring, but nothing major.

I go for acid peels every 9 - 12 months (the 30% TCA peels) to keep my skin even and healthy. It also helps tame the scarring. These peels require about 6 - 10 days of downtime afterward (since it looks like your face is peeling off)

I'm allergic to Benzoil peroxide so Proactive and many other scrubs were out of the question.

So, that's what worked for me. It was a long, tough road but it's finally over.

I wouldn't recommend the squeezing though...even though it worked miracles for me. It was EXTREMELY painful and I' sure there are easier ways to get rid of your acne.

Everyone's different, but you'll find what's best for you!

Good luck! When you went to a dermatologist to treat your acne, what did they say?
    Just use basic rubbing alcohol.

The doctor isn't going to give you anything except a prescription that is going to cost you alot of money and will do the samething.
Both my son and daughter have/had bad acne. She prescribed them Acutane... I'ts some rough stuff, not for everyone, but from what I hear, it's suposed to be a permenant fix.
they gave me some acne pills but i forgot what they were called...

i was allergic to them so i stopped using them...
go for ur bac acne trust me they have a milliondiff medicines that work for every1 trust me its worth it
they dont say anything mean if thats what ur wondering. xD

they just tell u stuff like ohh its normal for ur ageee bla bla bla

then they give u creams n perscriptions to treat it

    no biggy =]
    I'm gonna throw up....

Is it legal for a dermatologist to dispense medicine which he created and sell it to his clients?

My dermatologist gave me a liquid solution that he created (part acid/alcolhol and some other ingredients) for removing dark blotches from my skin which I am to use with an over-the-counter cream. The liquid has the doctor's own label from his office. Price was $35.Is it legal for a dermatologist to dispense medicine which he created and sell it to his clients?
That is great he can do that for you.

I had a osteopath that had his own muscle cream that worked better than anything you could buy. A pharmacy mixed it up especially for his patients. I love the stuff!

If your dermatologist has developed a solution that helps his clients, it is probably better than anything else you can find, either OTC or by perscription.

And as to the cost, $35 doesn't really seem like much, Retin A runs about $80 if you buy it at a pharmacy. That is what many dermatologists would perscribe for your skin.Is it legal for a dermatologist to dispense medicine which he created and sell it to his clients?
It should be illegal. I do know that it is illegal for a Dr to send patients to his own laboratory to have blood work. Can you check on your own states medical licensing board site and ask them?
well if your young then it's probably not his label but tell your mom to make sure and if your older I would report him or do some research on what he gave you and go to a different doctor for now on
Its unethical to say the least. His own brand probably doesn't meet the FDA standards . It is not legal for him to be selling it out of his office. Watch out cause you may get an infection or worse by using them. He needs to be turned in .
It is neither illegal nor unethical for a doctor to sell OTC (non-prescrip) medications. He knows what will work.

It it most likely salicylic acid and alcohol. Let me ask you this:

    1) Does it work?

    2) Do you feel cheated somehow? is that why this question?

    3) Are you explicitly and *patiently* following the directions?

  • How much does a dermatologist earn per month/year?

how long do you have to be in university for?

so you have to do general medicine before you get into this profession? and how long for?

thanks How much does a dermatologist earn per month/year?
A dermatologist can earn upwards from $250,000 a year, but there is a lot of studying involved.

You have to go to college four years, then go to medical school, then go to a special school where they specialize on dermatology procedures for about two years, and then work as a resident.

You have to make sure that you are really passionate about this career if you are going to be willing to study for so long. But as long as you put your heart into it, it is possible :) How much does a dermatologist earn per month/year?
a lot... at least $300,000.00+. In school for about 12 years, and no, they don't have to practice general medicine before...

For a really bad smashed finger, should I see a dermatologist or hold out for a hand specialist?

Are dermatologists specialists in finger smashings and finger damage - or should I try to see a hand specialist - I thought dermatologists were experts in nails? For a really bad smashed finger, should I see a dermatologist or hold out for a hand specialist?
    First Aid

    * Apply an ice pack to decrease the swelling.

    * Over-the-counter pain medications may help relieve discomfort.

    * If pain becomes excessive, with blood under the fingernail, talk to your health care provider. Your health care provider may assist you in taking the following steps to relieve the pressure:

    1. Heat the end of a bent paper clip (or a similar size metal wire) over an open flame until it is red hot. Use a pair of pliers to hold the paper clip during sterilization.

    2. While it is still very hot, touch the tip of it to the injured fingernail. This is not a painful procedure for most people.

    3. The heat of the clip will burn a small hole in the fingernail. It is not necessary to press hard on the fingernail to burn a hole. (Another technique is to drill a small hole in the nail by twirling a scalpel blade, sharp knife, or needle.)

    4. As the paper clip is removed, blood should start releasing through the small hole. If not, retry the procedure until blood comes out and pressure is relieved.

    5. The pain will be relieved as the pressure is released. Soak the injured finger in warm water with a few drops of disinfectant for 20 minutes, 4 times a day, for 2 days.

    6. This procedure can be repeated, if necessary, if the hole closes over and the pressure rebuilds.

    7. The finger should be washed carefully before and after the procedure. Antibiotics may be administered if the procedure was not performed under sterile conditions.

    * DO NOT Splint a smashed finger without first consulting your health care provider. Decreased long-term finger mobility may result.

    * DO NOT Try to drain a swollen finger unless your health care provider instructs you to do so.

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/鈥?/a>For a really bad smashed finger, should I see a dermatologist or hold out for a hand specialist?
Dermatologists are sking doctors they would not be able to do anything. I would go to the emergency room and get an x-ray to see if it is broken. then they will tell you to see an orthopedist -bone doctor .. or a hand specialist.
No. Dermatologists are skin doctors. You need an orthopaedist which is a bone doctor. Good luck!
You need to get it xrayed, then they will send you to an ortho doctor (bone doctor) if you fingernail is really infected from the smashing, the doctor will give you antibodics and maybe numb your finger and remove it.

Good Luck, as a Kid I used to always smash my fingers up!
There are at least 3 different doctors that can work on it.

    1. Orthopedic: takes care of broken bones/sprains/soft tissue injury

    2. Plastic surgeon: Takes care of some fractures, soft tissue injuries, and can repair a laceration under the nail, in the nailbed.

    3. Family doctors: can examine the injury, order xrays and get you in to see another specialist, if needed.
a dermatologist takes care of skin problems. see a regular doctor first if you dont go to the emergency room. you might need to see an orthopedic doctor who works with bones and joints. some of them also specialize in hands.

Can I see my dermatologist without an appointment?

its a semi-emergency. i have a large painful cyst on my face that i would like to quickly get injected with cortisone. if i don't it will get bigger, stay for about 3 months, make me look like a mutant, and likely scar. Can I see my dermatologist without an appointment?
Why not just go to the emergency room???Can I see my dermatologist without an appointment?
You will certainly be able to go see a dermatologist however, you need to check with that office to see what their policy is and what your insurance may say about that.
If it is an emergency, then I think that your doctor would work you in ASAP. Call them and ask. If they can't get you in, find someone who will.
No, but call and explain the crisis.
    Possibly....
it is very important if you cannot see your doctor see a good skin doctor that will take you but do not panic

Can i see a dermatologist for pimples on my underarms or only for the face?

I haven't been shaving i've been waxing mostly but i seem to keep getting pimples or something on my underarms and it is sort of like puss or whatever that white stuff is thats comin out. Where should i go? Will a Dermatologist help me? and i live in Michigan so if anyone knows a good dermatologist then leave me the name and city plzz and thanks o and the pricing range...

-THANKKK YOUUUCan i see a dermatologist for pimples on my underarms or only for the face?
If you feel like it's really a problem, then go ahead and go to a dermatologist. And no, they're not just for face. They are for any problem pertaining to any skin on your body.

A good way to find one in your area is to look on yelp.com and search for dermatologist in your location, and then you can see other people's reviews of them. Can i see a dermatologist for pimples on my underarms or only for the face?
The dermatologist will help you. They aren't just for face acne. And they aren't just for acne either. So yes. Go see a dermatologist.
you can go to the dermatologits for that but i wouldnt just start shaving
I am sure it is just ingrown hairs! If it keeps up there is some over the counter stuff you can buy to help. The one I use is called ';No Bump';. That should help. If it doesn't get any better and gets really painful I would just google dermatologist in your area and read the reviews on them, or ask a family member or friend if they know of any!
Haha. Those are pimples. You have razor burn (:

    No need for a dermatologist...

How much a dermatologist charges you for an inspection of genital warts?

If you ask him nicely the dermatologist will show you his genital warts for nothing. How much a dermatologist charges you for an inspection of genital warts?
depends on where you live, what an odd question! How much a dermatologist charges you for an inspection of genital warts?
Well it was a rash on my arms but I think it would be the same thing. A dermatologist is a specialist so it depends on your insurance if you have any. I had to pay $80 with this crap and the co-pays going up.
Why don't you go to your Personal Doctor. They will know and he/she is cheaper than a dermatologist. They will also know exactly how to treat them. Dermatologists are specialist, therefore, cost you more. Doctors know about things like that though, too.
I hate to answer with a question, but how much would you pay to see and smell other complete stranger's genitals? Take that number and multiple it by 100, which is at least the number of times the doctor had to do the exam for free while in training for 10 years, and then you will come close to the dollar figure the dermatologist should charge.

How much does your mechanic charge per hour? How about your plumber? Interesting that they went to vocational school. Your dermatologist had at least 8 years of training AFTER college. And what they do can save your life. It's not fair, but someone has to look at these problems and I, as a dermatologist have given my life to such a task. And you have the audacity to ask me what is a fair charge????

  • Can I sue my dermatologist for unnecessary scarring ?

I had two dyplastic novi moles removed from back. The dermatologist did not put enough stitches in and the wounds and they both opened and healed. I now have two round scars the size of half dollars on back instead of the discussed regular linear scars. I am now very self conscience to take my shirt off in public. Can I sue my dermatologist for unnecessary scarring ?
You could of course. But how much do you think you'll re-coop from two scars on an area that is covered most of your life? I had my gallbladder removed 2 years ago and my abdomen looks like the bride of frankenstein. That's just the risk you accept with surgery; there is always some degree of scarring involved. People are getting fed up with silly frivolous lawsuits and in this economy aren't going to put much weight on what's basically a cosmetic issue. I don't mean to belittle your situation and I know it's not silly to you; I'm just telling you what I see in the courtroom everyday. What I would advise is talking to your dr - he is a dermatologist after all, this is his specialty - to see what he recommends. He may be able to lessen the indenture of the scars with some procedure. Have you tried any OTC scar therapies? Can I sue my dermatologist for unnecessary scarring ?
Yes, you can, but they can say you did not follow instructions about lifting, or physical activity for the time needed for the wounds to heal. Hard to prove and few Doc's will testify against their own. Good luck if you proceed.

Will going to a dermatologist really work?

I have really bad acne, all over my face. And sometimes is get unbelievable. So, i was wondering, instead of just using over the counter creams etc that don't work, will going to a dermatologist actually work? I'm really tired of acne. I can't remember the last time I had clean skin. I must have been in 8. I'm 16 now.

    :l

Thanks :DWill going to a dermatologist really work?
I'll tell you the truth. Don't go. dermatologists don't work. All they do is make you pay a lot of money for stuff that doesn't work. All they do is guess, even they don't know what causes acne. Will going to a dermatologist really work?
A dermatologist is your best bet. I also have had bad acne and i used to try everything over the counter like proactive, clearsil, clean and clear... etc. Anyways my doctor prescribed me tazorac and a antibiotic minocyline. They have worked wonders. The antibiotic kills bacteria internally that causes acne. Tazorac can possibly make your acne worse at first because it is pulling out pimples from under your skin that have not reached the skin surface yet, but it they would have came out eventually anyways.

So after those pimples heal ( which tazorac speeds up the healing process) you should not get anymore pimples.

I would also advise making sure your face is clean using a good cleanser 2-3 times a day. I use neutrogena foam wash which works great !

    Hope this helps :)
i went to the doctor and they prescribed me retin-a. now i don't have as much acne as before but i have markd left over which will fade over time and retin-a also helps with that.

i aslo tried over the counter products and they didn't do much. so if i were you i would go to the doctor.
Yes, going to a dermatologist will most definitely work. I used to waste money buying over-the-counter products, but when nothing worked. I headed over to a dermatologist and he was able to prescribe me a cream that actually works.

    Good luck! [:
go to the doctor and ask for a Benza Clin prescription

it's a benynzol peroxide gel that will really help clear up your acne
Head there at the very least there are a few things they can try.

It should help - especially if nothing over the counter helped.

How much a dermatologist charges you for an inspection of genital warts?

The best place to go for genital warts if you are a female is to your gynecologist...they are STDs and generally the dermatologist won't treat you for this. Planned Parenthood will take you as a patient and treat you. If you are a man, try the public health department....they will treat you also. How much a dermatologist charges you for an inspection of genital warts?
Well the question is why do you want an inspection? Are you positive they are warts? If you are then you want to know how much to remove them right? To remove warts it depends on the treatment they use. You must first go to a Std Dr. and know for sure u have warts and then go get them removed. Depending on the treatment it can range anywhere fron $200.00 on up. and not to mention you will probably have to go more then one time and might even have more outbreaks from the same wart. The hpv thing needs to be addressed and I feel they should have a cure by now because I know several people that have this issue. You must get checked out by a Dr. that deals with this subject on a regular basis. Genital warts are a common problem and more people have them then you may think so dont be ashamed and go see a Dr. then have them removed. Good Luck! How much a dermatologist charges you for an inspection of genital warts?
I wouldnt go see a dermatologist for genital problem, you should go see a gynocologist even if you're a guy......these doctor's specialize not only in child birth but in STD for both men and women and anything to do your reproductive organs ........dermatologist is more for skin disorders, an STD isnt a skin disorder its a disease or bacterial infection......the skin reaction is just a symptom of an STD

  • How much is it to go to the dermatologist?

I have terrible acne on my face and back. I want to go to them and get a PILL not a face wash because I've tried so much %26amp; nothing works. I want to treat from the inside. Anyways how much is it?? And when you went to it did it help you??How much is it to go to the dermatologist?
It all depends on what insurance you have (if any) and how much that particular dermatologist charges. Going to a dermatologist has really helped me with my acne. Ever since I received prescription cream and occasional antibiotic, my acne has been virtually non-existent.

What will happen when i visit a dermatologist for skin exam?

i have been referred by my doctor as i have lots of moles, is this something to worry about and what will actually happen, i live in england thanks. What will happen when i visit a dermatologist for skin exam?
All of it depends on what doctor you have, but my mother had many moles and had to see dermatologists often.

    The doctor will probably start with asking questions and writing a few things down. He or she will then want to see the moles and will continue asking questions like ';Do they hurt?'; and ';How long have you had this one?';

He or she will probably review the chances of cancer or lack thereof. Some moles can turn cancerous, but it's fairly rare and your doctor will be able to tell. If the doctor doesn't say anything, but you want to know - ASK!

If you or the doctor think the moles should be removed, the two of you will have to discuss how to get them removed. Most of the time they're frozen and then taken off - although I have a sister who had one on her bum and they numbed it and then ';scraped'; it off. In both my mother's and sister's cases, both said the process to actually get the moles removed didn't hurt, but after the freezing and numbing wore off, they hurt for a day to a week or so depending on the area.

I know you might be nervous and that's very understandable - I'm sure your doctor will understand as well. What will happen when i visit a dermatologist for skin exam?
I live in the US but I am assuming the basic procedure is more or less the same.

I have a great doctor and she takes really good care of me and my family.

First I go into the exam room and I tell the nurse why I am there and point out anything particularly that I am concerned about.

She will leave the room briefly and I undress completely, sometimes they give me a gown to drape across my waist, other times I keep on my briefs.

Then I lay down on my back and the doctor goes over my entire body with the nurse. She will pull down my briefs and examine my penis and testicles and the skin around them.

Then I turn over and she and the nurse repeats the process examining my buttocks and even between my toes and the bottom of my feet.

Any problem is noted and either removed or an appointment is made for me to come back for it to be removed by surgery.

It isn't that big a deal. She has found several squamous and one basal cancer, along with numerous SK (or precancerous). My modesty, such as it is, is respected and I am never made to feel uncomfortable. It isn't something I look forward to but it isn't to be dreaded either. Sorta like going to get a haircut. It is inconvenient but that is about all.
If it's like the USA then they will just quickly look over all of your body. I had a spot and it was precancerous so now I have to go every three months for a body check.

They just look at your entire body ( not your genitals) unless you ask. If you are a girl they will look at your breasts.

If something look suspicious they will take a piece of the spot and send it for a biopsy. If it comes back positive for cancer or precancer then you will see a plastic surgeon for removal of that area.
    Dont stress too much...

At worst they will take a few samples, moles being growths have little to no feeling... try pinching one... I had one removed it didnt hurt at all.

It will most likely just be a check up and consultation.
    you'll prolly get examed

How do you diagram/label the word dermatologist?

dermatologist is a noun, so it put into a sentence diagram as a subject, direct object, or object of a preposition. It depends on the context.

    As a subject, ';My dermatologist is great.';

As an object of a preposition, ';There's a good magazine at my dermatologist';How do you diagram/label the word dermatologist?
greek ';derma'; means skin...How do you diagram/label the word dermatologist?
Dermatologist is a noun describing a skin doctor. It depends on where in the sentence in falls as to how it's diagrammed. In a sentence such as ';The dermatologist agreed to see her';, the word is the simple subject and would be on the main line, separated from the verb ';agreed'; with a line between, and with ';the'; (adj) off it. In a sentence like ';She visited the dermatologist';, it's a direct object and should extend from the verb (visited).

Little lump along lower lashes, eye doctor or dermatologist?

I have a little fleshy bump along my lower lashline. I figured it was an ingrown and would go away. But it's been about 6 weeks and is now sore to the touch.

Do I see an eye doctor or dermatologist for this?

    Thanks!

Little lump along lower lashes, eye doctor or dermatologist?
Eye doctor. You may have an infection there and need eye drops and perhaps some other intervention to clean the area out.Little lump along lower lashes, eye doctor or dermatologist?
Sounds like a sty. Here is a home remedy that works for my son when he gets one. He takes a tea bag and soaks it in boiling water and then puts the tea bag on his eye lid (only as hot as you can stand it) for about 20 minutes. It's the Tanic acid that does the trick. But for safety sake seek out a professional opinion if this doesn't work. Remember this is a home remedy so it may not work for you.
it sounds like a stye. you get them from make up and things. try putting a hot cloth on it for 15 minutes at least 3 times a day for a few days and if it doesn't go away, then see a doctor.
I would see the doctor first and let him refer you to a dermatologist if needed. The doctor is cheaper than a dermatologist.

I used to go with my mom when I was young. But now it would be awkward if I go with her because I am a 15 year old guy....and it's been a long time since I went and my skin is going rough right now.

Can a Dermatologist do anything for Chemical hair loss?

I hope so!Can a Dermatologist do anything for Chemical hair loss?
    Causes and Preventions:

A number of things can cause excessive hair loss (H.L). For example, about 3 or 4 months after an illness or a major surgery, you may suddenly lose a large amount of hair. This H.L is related to the stress of the illness and is temporary.

Hormonal problems may cause Hair to loss. If your thyroid gland is overactive or under active, your hair may fall out. This loss usually can be helped by treatment thyroid disease. This loss may occur if male or female hormones, known as androgens and estrogens, are out of balance. Correcting the hormone imbalance may stop your loss.

Many women notice hair loss about 3 months after they've had a baby. This loss is also related to hormones. During pregnancy, high levels of certain hormones cause the body to keep hair that would normally fall out. When the hormones return to pre-pregnancy levels, that hair falls out and the normal cycle of growth and loss starts again.

Some medicines can cause. This type of hair loss improves when you stop taking the medicine. Medicines that can cause include blood thinners (also called anticoagulants), medicines used for gout, medicines used in chemotherapy to treat cancer, vitamin A (if too much is taken), birth control pills and antidepressants.

Certain infections can cause loss. Fungal infections of the scalp can cause loss of in children. The infection is easily treated with antifungal medicines.

Finally, loss of hair may occur as part of an underlying disease, such as lupus or diabetes. Since hair loss may be an early sign of a

disease, it is important to find the cause so that it can be treated.

No. I am going through a law suit with Regis Hair Salons, as they applied a chemical straightener to my hair, and my hair fell out. Wait and see how much of the hair grows back in, and if a professional did it, contact an attorney. If hairloss is due to chemical process, and it does not grow back, you have what is called permanent follicular damage, which means that the follicle is dead, and can no longer produce hair. You will have to have surgery done by a surgeon that specializes in follicular transplantation.
';Derma'; refers to skin. It is not hair. Chemical hair loss my involve the skin, or it may be an internal problem. There is some overlap, but you need to ask the specialist if that is an area s/he has any expertise in. Dermatologists deal with medical problems. Hair is only cosmetic... it is not necessary to stay alive.
common sense says in order to stop it he too will recommend u to stop getting in touch with that chemical..

Anyway, I'm not sure what subjects there are for that university, but I'd focus on biology, especially where it talks about the skin. Chemistry would really help too. People like to go to dermatologists these days to make their skin more smooth and beautiful.

I'm sure any good university will let you have a deeper study in dermatology, so if you have good grades I wouldn't worry too much. What subjects should i specialise in at school to help me become a dermatologist
The answer is the same as for those who wanted to be an OB/GYN, a pediatric surgeon, a cardiologist, and various other medical specialties and sub- (and even sub-sub- ) specialties.

What you need to take to get into medical school and prepare for success in and after medical school is going to be basically the same regardless of what specialty you think you might pursue. (By the way, it's not at all uncommon to leave medical school with a very different professional direction than when one entered.) And MOST of medical school will still be just the same regardless. Most of the divergence will be after medical school.

depending on the issue if you think that it looks bad then go straight to the dermatologist.BUT first i would look it up on the internet then if you make a diagnosis and it says the condition isn't that bad go to the doctor see if he thinks it's bad BUT go immediately after making your diagnosis!!!!!

Hope this helps honey.Do i go to a doctors first or go straight to a dermatologist?
dermatologist is a special doctor of the skin,go to him first if the prolem is above him he will refer you to see your doctor for more serious problems.
Most insurances will on pay for a doctor and then the doctor has to recommend a dermatologist. If you do not have insurance go straight to the dermatologist, it will save you the cost of a doctor visit.
if you have insurance, go to the doctor first! Unless you're really rich, then I'm betting you have insurance
A dermatologist is a specialist doctor, so it depends on whether or not your insurance requires an Rx to see a specialist first to pay for it. Some insurances do, and others do not.

bc i only have a couple pimples.

but i hate them soo much.

help? How can i convince my mom to take me to the dermatologist?
Well a dermatologist is a lot of money so if she doesn't want to take you, I wouldn't worry that much. I use to have cystic acne all over my face for years, and my parents never took me. Eventually the school nurse told them to take me to my regular doctor to see what could be done, and that's what I suggest. If your acne isn't that bad anyway then I would encourage you to not waste the money. Just go see your regular doctor and see what he/she says first. She may in fact recommend a dermatologist, and then you win.How can i convince my mom to take me to the dermatologist?
just get clearasil and a moistureizer
u should tell her that they help clear acne and make u seem prettier when ur older. im 14 and they really helped and it is better to have no pimples then a couple.

    :))))
If you only have a few pimples, a doctor probably won't be able to do much for you. I'm sure they have expensive treatments and creams, but you're better off trying one of the acne kits on the market. Maybe proactive or clean and clear. Pimples are very normal and can usually be helped with the right products. If it continues to get worse and it's more than a few I'd say go then. I'm sure you're mom realizes it will likely be a waste of money.

Is this antibiotic prescription that my dermatologist wrote safe?

He prescribed me antibiotics (Doxycycline Hyclate; 100mg capsules) once a day for two months?

Isn't excessive use of antibiotics bad for you? Is a low dose or something? It's for my acne.Is this antibiotic prescription that my dermatologist wrote safe?
No. It depends on how much acne you have. I took Doxycycline for 4-5 months a few years ago and I'm fine. It clears you up like magic. You'll start to notice the difference after 2 weeks when pimples aren't as inflamed and they start drying out. Then you'll want to keep taking them until every last bit is gone. The reason they prescribe it for a long period of time is because they want to make sure all the bacteria is rid of.

The only bad thing (if you're a girl) is that it might decrease certain types of contraception.

This stuff worked wonders for me and what your dermatogist precribed is normal. Good luck!Is this antibiotic prescription that my dermatologist wrote safe?
Oral antibiotics work by removing the p.acne bacteria and decreasing inflammation. However there is a big challenge today in using modern antibiotic 鈥?that is, over-prescription of antibiotic. The result is a growing resistance to these drugs which means that diseases that once could have been wiped out with a course of antibiotics may now have dire potential.

It works wonders and you don't have to have any fancy productHow do i get rid of acne scars without going to a dermatologist?
Two types of acne scars exist; the first type is usually a spot of skin that is brown, pink or purple in color indicating that a pimple has been in that area of your skin. The second type of acne is known as an “ice pick” scar and it is the small hole you sometimes see on your skin where the lesion used to occupy. Inflamed lesions, such as cysts, pustules, or nodules are the major culprits in causing acne scars.
you could cover it up with make up

I have been a constant sufferer of acne ever since I was a teenager. I am breaking out like crazy now, worse because I am pregnant. I want to know if it's okay to see my dermatologist where she can inject my big cyst pimples and put this cold liquid on my face to take off the dead skin?I am a few weeks pregnant, is it safe to visit my dermatologist?
The best person to answer that question is your dermatologist. Tell her you are pregnant and she should plan your treatment accordingly. You can't be the first pregnant patient she has ever had.I am a few weeks pregnant, is it safe to visit my dermatologist?
You need to tell your dermatologist that you are pregnant. I believe that Accutane is out-of-bounds for women who are pregnant, but there are probably a range of medications/treatments that your dermatologist would not prescribe/utilize knowing that you are pregnant.

If your dermatologist knows that you are pregnant ahead of your appointment, then she can consider appropriate alternatives for the treatment of your acne.

I hope you feel better soon.
you can and most Dr will tell you that it is safe but i Just want you to truly think about it. anything that happens to you will also happen to the baby. But over all i think it would be ok. i am sure that the Dermatologist thinks so as well i don't truly know that drug that will be injected so please play it safe.

Acne is a skin condition which has plugged pores (blackheads and whiteheads), inflamed pimples (pustules), and deeper lumps (nodules). Acne occurs on the face, as well as the neck, chest, back, shoulders, and upper arms. Although most teenagers get some form of acne, adults in their 20's, 30's, 40's, or even older, can develop acne. Often, acne clears up after several years, even without treatment. Acne can be disfiguring and upsetting to the patient. Untreated acne can leave permanent scars; these may be treated by your dermatologist in the future. To avoid acne scarring, treating acne is important Try talking to your doctor then they will try to hook you up with one!!!

How do you become a dermatologist?

What are the best courses for a skin doctor? How do you become a dermatologist?
You get 3 A grade a levels or 5 good highers in Scotland. You get in to medical school, the course has reduced to 5 years now, it was 6 when I studied. Do 2 years as a junior houseman and then then at least 3 years of general professional training are required before entry into the specialist registrar grade. MRCP ( Member of the Royal College of Physicians ) which takes about 4 years with examinations, is required and in practise, because entry to the specialist registrar grade is so competitive, at least 6 months and often more as an SHO (or Foundation year 3) or as a locum specialist registrar in dermatology is necessary, although no more than 6 months is allowable towards general professional training .Higher medical training in dermatology is only 4 years at present. Many trainees feel that this is too short and there have been discussions regarding an extension to 5 years.

Total training time from university entry is thus currently about 12 years. How do you become a dermatologist?

It is ridiculously hard to become a dermatologist, I hope you're ready for a long road ahead. Most people don't realize you don't really get to pick what kind of soctor you want to be. Kinda, but not really. After medical school you have to do a residency and you have to apply for residency positions. Dermatology is one of the hardest to get into, it's up there with plastics, urology, and orthopedic surgery to name a few. Mostly because there are so few spots. There are something like 400 resident spots accross the country every year. So get into medical school, kick serious butt on the boards etc and get published on a couple derm papers and hopefully you'll at least get an interview. I'm not trying to dissuade you but it's important you know just how difficult the road ahead will bee... best of luck!

Should i go to a dermatologist for acne?

i've tried many different things from stores, and proactiv too, it worked for a little while but i have to wash my face two times a day everyday and if i forget one or two days then i get horrible break outs, i just can't keep up with it. right now my acne is really bad, the worst it's ever been. i would rather take a medication then have another thing to wash my face with, which would they more likely want me to do? did going to the dermatologist help you with your acne problems?Should i go to a dermatologist for acne?
If you are not able to control your acne with over the counter meds and have health insurance, it is probably time to make an appointment with a dermatologist. They do have access to some really good prescription medications that they can prescribe to you. The only problem is finding a good dermatologist who can accurately diagnose what is exactly going on with your skin and give you what you need to get it cleared up.

A good combination approach is to use Retin-A micro gel before bed (mix it with an equal amount alcohol/dye free aloe vera gel -retin-a is EXTREMELY drying so you do need to apply at least some kind of moisturizer with it after you have been applying it for awhile but at first when the skin is really overproducing you could probably go with straight retin-a) and use clindamycin in the AM. Both should be applied very sparingly -stretch it out, do not overapply or you will dry the skin and cause excess sebum production and cell turnover that will clog pores worse and therefore make the acne even more uncomfortable for you.

You might have to take your suggestions in to the doc -some do not appreciate this, but if they are wasting your time and not giving you what you know you need, demand it or go online. No one should have to suffer due to a doctor's incompetence or analness.

A good moisturizer to keep on hand is Lac-Hydrin 5. In case your skin has had too much treatment, you still want to apply something to fight bacteria at least. The L-H 5 maintains the normal pH balance of the skin and after some time of treatment you may be able to maintain the effects by just keeping the skin inhospitable to bacterial invasion (by using the L-H 5 and spot treatment with retin-a and clindamycin).

Regardless of the treatment that you decide on, you are going to have to remember to wash your face gently with a mild cleanser in the AM and PM if your skin is oily and you really want to control the acne. I find that washing my face in the morning helps me wake up and I just wash my face in the shower before bed (or vice versa if I get my shower in the AM).

If you do indeed have a severe case of acne that is uncontrollable by any other means, there is a pill called Accutane that is a last resort. It shuts down all of the body's capabilities to produce oil. It is nearly 100% effective for acne treatment, but the entire body can get very dry and the facial skin prone to premature wrinkling. You would need to apply a very heavy moisturizer to most of your body daily for comfort. Accutane can only be taken for a short period of time to get the acne under control and then maintain the effects with other medications. You also cannot have sex while taking Accutane (or if you do and get pregnant, you MUST be okay with the prospect of abortion or raising a severely malformed child since Accutane is highly toxic to fetuses and is known to cause horrible if not fatal birth defects. You are required to maintain a reliable form of birth control while on the medication, but since no forms are completely reliable, abstinence is unfortunately the best option in this case.

I hope that you can get some assistance and relief from the acne. Good luck!

If your face clears up you may have acne due to stress. The dermatologist would have something to help that. try and get accutane it really works
Here is my tips before you see dermatologist. And also dermatologist fee is varies. So better you check it out first before make an appointment with dermatologist.

Acne treatment for your acne should be accompanied by a healthy skin care routine.

Wash the affected area twice a day with mild soap. Use soap such as Dove, or one that contains benzoyl peroxide, such as Oxy-5. Wash as often necessary to keep the area clean. Do not scrub.

    Shampoo the hair regularly.

Keep long hair off the face and shoulders and wash it daily.

Avoid shaving as much as possible; while shaving take care to avoid nicking the pimples.

Use a fresh shaving blade to minimize the chance of spreading the infection.

Avoid use of make-up or cosmetics in areas prone to acne. If you have to wear make-up, use only the hypoallergenic or fragrance free kind.

Don't pop, pick, scratch, or squeeze your pimples. This may cause infection and scarring.

You may use an over-the-counter treatment that contain substances such as benzoyl peroxide (gel or cream) or salicyclic acid. Start with the lowest strength and apply once a day about half an hour after washing. Never use more than 5 percent strength without consulting a physician.

Food and Nutrition Recommendations for Acne:Some doctors believe that acne is not a food related problem. Some alternate practitioners use diet as a basis for their treatment of acne. They recommend that acne patients should eat foods high in beta-carotene, such as carrots, pumpkin, cantaloupe and other yellow-orange fruits and vegetables. They should also avoid fatty foods. Acnezine controls the oil secretion in your body to protect your skin from getting acne prone.

Vitamin Therapy for Acne:Nutritionists generally suggest:Chromium supplements - Chromium helps boosts the body's ability to break down glucose.Vitamin A - reduces sebum and keratin production. (Caution: taking mega doses of Vitamin A can cause headaches, fatigue, muscle and joint pain and other side effects. Consult a qualified practitioner before taking mega supplements).Vitamin E - an antioxidant (200 to 400 IU a day).Vitamin B-6 50 mg per day. This vitamin aids in the metabolism of hormones and supports the function of Acnezine as well.

Note: People should not try to medicate themselves or others with any of the methods referred to here without the guidance of a qualified practitioner who is thoroughly familiar with both the remedies and the individual鈥檚 medical status.

Well good luck and best wishes.
you can't detimine how much they cost becasue usually they are covered under insurance.

i have gotten Retin-a from them and it cleared up my skin...it's just senstive to light...but its a boost to get started.

sometimes you may be over scrubbing your face which can cause irratation...
