Do you have to be referred to a dermatologist?

I have acne, and it seems to be getting worse (it runs in the family)... I've gone to the doctors but with make up on, as i can't leave the house with it all showing! So they couldn't tell how bad it was. Do i have to be referred to a dermatologist or can i go myself? And does it cost anything? Please Help... The acne is really bringing my confidence down!Do you have to be referred to a dermatologist?
No you don't have to be referred to go to a dermatologist.

In regards to cost, it depends on your insurance.

I go to a dermatoligist and it really helps!

Most of mine is covered by health insurence (except for a few medicines).

Most dermatologists will charge a visiting fee. (mine is $20 each visit).

I encorauge you to see a dermatoligist, it will really help and change your life by making you feel better about yourself.

also, if you don't want to go to a dermatologist, try the Obagi System. it's pretty expensive (about $400) but it works like a miracle (it clears acne and erases all scarring) and it might end up saving you more money in the end. Really consider it.

And...birth control really helped me. I take Yaz and I've been completely zit free for three months (and i had TERRIBLE acne).

Good Luck!Do you have to be referred to a dermatologist?
You have to be referred and I'm pretty sure if it's bad like, cystic type acne then insurance should cover most of it.
If you have insurance, it could vary. If you pay cash, no. Have you tried proactive? I had a friend whose daughter tried EVERYTHING and that was the only thing that cleared her. Also, try to get more zzz's in- your body stops stressing out while you sleep.
you go as you please

and yes it costs money
It depends on your insurance. Some yes some no. If you are paying cash, just make an appt. It is a wait to get in. It is 4 months at my cousin's office.
Depends on your insurance. Some insurance requires referrals, while others do not.
It depends on your insurance. If you have an HMO or are part of a managed care plan you have to see your regular doctor first and he will refer you to the dermatologist, otherwise the insurance won't pay for the visit. If you have a PPO, an insurance that lets you see any doctor you want, you can just call and make an appointment. When in doubt, call your insurance company.
