Or can I just have my primary care physician look at them? It will cost me more money to go to a dermatologist.Do I have to go to a dermatologist to have my moles looked at?
The derm is an expert. He looks at moles all day. He's up on all the latest stuff about moles. Skin problems are his life. I once went to my derm for an allergic rash on my neck from a new shampoo. He gave me something for it and told me to stop using it. On his way out of the office, he stopped and asked if the rash was on my shoulders too. When I said yes, he hesitated a moment and then said, ';Well, I'd better look at it.'; As soon as I pulled up my shirt, he exclaimed, ';How long have you had this mole?'; It was on my lower back and it looked just like a regular mole. He said it had to come off right away. He surgically removed it a week later and then called me when the pathology report came back to tell me it had been stage 1 skin cancer. I go every year now to have my skin checked. I wouldn't trust a regular physician, because he isn't a specialist.Do I have to go to a dermatologist to have my moles looked at?
your gp should be able to tell if they look a bit unusual and if they do they will take a biopsy of the tissue and send it away for testing.
if there is cancerous tissue present it will be removed.
no dermatologist required generally.
In most cases, a regular primary care doctor can look at them. If he or she suspects anything out of the ordinary, they can refer you to a dermatologist.
You should go to a regular doctor and they will probably recommend a dermatologist.
My sister had a mole removed when she was little and she didn't have to see a dermatologist.
